In 2006 Solar Development, Inc. was chosen via competitive bid by the City of Roseville, CA to design and install high-profile solar arrays at Silverado Middle School and the Roseville Civic Center.
Completed in August 2006, the Silverado Middle School array is the first solar system on a school in Placer County. Solar Development, Inc. worked with the Division of State Architects (DSA) to obtain approval for the project, and completed the project on-time and on-budget under a tight construction deadline.
The system, which is 11 kW (DC) and generates about 65 kilowatt-hours of electricity daily, is also a learning tool for Silverado Middle School students. The science classes will integrate the photovoltaic system into their curriculum, and the system may also be incorporated into math classes and after-school clubs in the future.
The environmental benefit of the solar electric generation system is equivalent to taking 15 cars off the road for one year or planting more than 44,000 trees.
